I love to be outside. And I love going out to hike and run every single day on our local trails. Going out in all weather and seasons allows me to explore how the landscape changes in ways that are both familiar and fresh. It always provides something new to spark wonderment in me. I also love to paint. A moment may be just that, a moment in time, but through painting I get to stretch out a moment and preserve its beauty just for you. When I'm not painting, you can find me on the mountain with my dog trying to beat my record of hiking a total of 3152 miles last year.
Each painting begins with a compositional, value and color study on site. I then go back to my studio and begin the painting. I use oil on canvas, putting on paint and then scraping down the paint once it has time to set a little. This way a luminescent quality is achieved of layering colors. I work in a limited color palette, using complimentary colors, combining them to get rich neutrals. Each painting takes many days to complete.
